Mehran Seyed Emami is an Iranian Canadian trauma-informed therapist, Registered Clinical Counsellor, and MDMA-assisted psychotherapy practitioner. He is certified in Compassionate Inquiry, a therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté.

Mehran holds a graduate degree in Integral Counselling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), where he also completed the Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research certificate program. He is additionally trained in Somatic Experiencing, Holotropic Breathwork, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

In his work, Mehran invites a holistic and somatic (body-centered) approach, grounded in a biopsychosocial-spiritual lens. His mission—like that of his late father, Kavous Seyed Emami—is to be a bridge: a bridge between suffering and healing, between our humanity and our divinity.

David became a pot activist in 1993, after having visited Holland in 1990 and Berkeley, California in 1992. Reading the book Emperor Wears No Clothes made David realize that cannabis was the co-evolutionary plant partner of humanity, and that the re-legalization of cannabis would solve many problems, including poverty (through making the emerging herbal medicine economy available to all), scapegoating (through creating a reasonable minimal standard for criminalizing behavior) and climate destabilization (through the use of hemp ethanol as a carbon-sink fuel crop).

David started helping to organize smoke-ins in 1993. In 1995 David moved to Vancouver and began selling recreational cannabis in a public manner in 1996 (the first rec pot retail store in North America), in an organization called the Harm Reduction Club, which was raided by the police in 1996 and 1997. In 2003 David appeared at the Supreme Court of Canada self-represented on pot dealing charges. In 2004 David opened up the Herb School (psychoactive herb dispensary and educational organization) and the Herb Museum in 2007. In 2008 the police raided the Herb School, and David ended up serving four months in jail.

In 2015 David opened up the Stressed And Depressed cannabis dispensary, but had to sell the dispensary to more wealthy people due to the 35,000 dollars per year in licensing fees. In 2021 David began working the Coca Leaf Cafe & Mushroom Dispensary, located at 651 East Hastings St. - the world's first LSD/DMT/magic mushroom etc psychedelic/psychoactive drug store."

It is important to note that this conversation was recorded in July of 2024 before the announcement from the FDA that they rejected the proposal from Lykos for MDMA Assisted Psychotherapy. Since that decision was made, a lot has changed in the world of psychedelic therapy but nonetheless, much of this conversation remains relevant now.

Dr. Devon Christie, a Clinical Instructor at UBC Department of Medicine, is a dedicated family doctor with a focus in chronic pain and mental health. In her clinical work at the Canadian Pain and Regenerative Institute and online psychotherapy practice in Vancouver, BC, she brings a holistic approach to her patients and clients. Formerly the Numinus Senior Lead of Psychedelic Programs, Devon played a key role in developing and implementing psychedelic-assisted clinical and therapist training programs. Currently, she is proud to co-direct Embody Lab’s “Somatic Psychedelic Facilitation” certificate program with Atira Tan: together they provide a decolonizing approach to learning about and facilitating psychedelic healing.

Devon also teaches therapists in renowned training programs such as CIIS, IPI, ATMA, and VITAL, prioritizing ethical practice, mindfulness, and trauma-specific skills. Ivan Rados is a leading non-dualistic spiritual teacher known for his profound awakening at 42, leading him to develop "The Middle Point" discipline. His teachings emphasize wholeness, health, and self-actualization, challenging traditional views on consciousness and being. Author of several bestsellers like "Health It’s all About Consciousness" and "The Art Of Meditation," Ivan has influenced countless other teachers and healers worldwide.

Dr. Devon is an MD and certified psychedelic therapist, working in chronic pain and mental health. Doron and Tricia met 33 years ago at a grocery store in Newport Beach California. After one month of knowing each other, they decided to move in together and the rest is history. They now have two kids. A son Jake who is 27 and their daughter Emily who is 25. After growing up in southern California, they lived in Los Angeles until 2003, then moved to Portland for about 10 years before immigrating to Canada and settling in Vancouver in 2013.

Doron has been a realtor for about 25 years and Trish is in Marketing/Sales in retirement living. Doron's parents immigrated to the US from Israel in the early 1960s and his mom is a Holocaust survivor. He has one older brother and two younger sisters. Trish is an only child and her dad was an alcoholic and Mom suffered from a hereditary neurological disease and she has been on her own since she was 17 years old.

In the last couple years, Doron and Tricia have started to explore bringing psychedelics into their relationship which has resulted in a beautiful and powerful expansion which they openly share during our conversation.

Ever since Doron and Tricia shared pieces of their story with me, I have been very excited to have them come and share their journey on the podcast because I think it is especially inspiring for older adults who are curious about how psychedelics might help deepen and expand their own relationships.

Ketamine is the first legal psychedelic substance to be offered in a clinical setting in Canada. When used in a careful and mindful way, this powerful substance has shown the ability to promote neuroplasticity, produce insight and expand consciousness. It has also been shown to treat anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions. Ketamine is in a unique class when compared to other psychedelics and despite it being legally available to use, a lot of people are not aware of its many therapeutic properties.

For this special event, we gathered a diverse lineup of speakers coming to share about ketamine’s therapeutic capacity, effects and best practices.

In this seminar, we explored the powerful interplay between Sex and Psychedelics.

Sex can be such an important element of the human experience and pleasure is just one aspect of this. Understanding how sensuality and pleasure are intertwined with the psychedelic experience is important to discuss; especially from an ethical perspective as these expanded states of consciousness often put us in vulnerable states. But ultimately, this is an important topic because we are all impacted by sexuality in one way or another.

For this panel we brought together a group of four knowledgeable panelists who shared their insights and perspectives with us including Angela Leong, Daniel Kline, Jess Rodwell and Daka Ziji.

Andre Zamani is a cognitive neuroscience researcher at the University of British Columbia, where he investigates the neurocognitive bases of spontaneous thought using methodological tools from behavioral experimentation, neuroimaging with fMRI, neurophenomenology, and psychological theory. Andre's focus on spontaneous thought is rooted in his curiosity towards topics such as social behaviour and experience, self-experience, and psychedelia, for which he believes a better understanding can be reached through clarifying the nature of thought itself. Andre completed a BA in Psychology and Neuroscience from the University of Puget Sound in 2019, an MA in Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2023, and began pursuing a PhD in Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2023.

In this episode, we discuss the work that Andre is doing at UBC around spontaneous thought and how this overlaps in some ways with psychedelics. We discuss different paradigms of research, different research methods, the current research landscape of psychedelics as well as some interesting analogies of the mind. Yasmeen is passionate about human connection, workplace wellness, fitness, and human potential optimization.She currently serves as the Director of Training & Operations at TheraPsil. She is also the Co-Founder of Nature of Work, a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach, a Pain BC Certified Coach, and a personal trainer in multiple disciplines. Yasmeen enjoys spending her time in nature, exploring the human psyche, and is committed to human betterment and healing.

Yasmeen's healing journey began when she was able to clear the trauma she had been holding onto from childhood after a psychedelic journey and knows firsthand the profound impact these substances can have on people's lives. Yasmeen holds a Bachelor of Science with a major in Psychology and a minor in Applied Ethics, a CTI Coaching designation, and has also volunteered at the Canadian Cancer Society as the Event Chair and Health Promotion and Fundraising volunteer for 5 years.

In this episode, we discuss all the amazing ways TheraPsil is advocating and pushing for legalisation of psilocybin assisted therapy. We discuss Health Canada and how they are involved in the process of legalization. We also discuss Yasmeen’s personal healing story and what it is like working at a psychedelic non-profit. Cory is a human-impact community builder, communications entrepreneur and plant medicine advocate who has spent the last 5 years building communities in the mental health and wellness space. After a 20 year battle with depression, he has committed his career to a vision where the stigmatization of mental illness is replaced with compassion, transformation and community connection; a world where we work together to reunite with our innate abilities to heal, overcome, create and actualize our full potential.

As a flow state breathwork guide, integration & microdosing practitioner and the former Executive Director of the Canadian Psychedelic Association, Cory is passionate about collaborating with other advocates to expand education, equity and psychedelic access at home and abroad. Cory spends his time working with the Nikean Foundation and the Neuma Centre For Social Wellness.

In this episode, we discuss Cory’s personal journey with psychedelics, his previous work with the PAC and his current work with the Nikean Foundation. We talk about the importance of story with psychedelics and the amazing work being done at Nikean with their Story Telling project. Dr. Trina Nguyen, also known as The Dharmacist, is expanding access to earth medicine by training a generation of guides.

With nearly two decades of experience in pharmacy, hospital administration, and medicinal research, Dr. Trina brings a wealth of pharmaceutical knowledge into the spirit plant medicine world. Previously a co-author on a Cochran Review, she leveraged her background in systematic review and meta-analysis to develop a contraindications and interactions guide for pharmaceuticals and earth medicines, which appears in the appendix of the Manual for Psychedelic Guides by Mark Haden.

As a founder of Toad.School, she created a decentralized training for aspiring guides, which establishes standards of practice to ensure set, setting, and safety in earth medicine ceremonies.

With all that she has accomplished and learned, she will still tell you that her most important and cherished title is Mother.

The focus of the panel was 'Perspectives on Psychedelic Guiding' and we were lucky to be joined by four different speakers: Mark Haden, Aga Postawska, Vanathy Paranthaman, and Damian Kai Norman. In our discussion we talked about being trauma informed, the importance of proper screening, the great therapist syndrome, cancel culture, the over bonding problem, what psychedelics are and aren't useful for, the concept of an inner healing intelligence, how to create intimacy with psychedelics, as well as shared aspirations for the future of guiding and community.

After studying holistic nutrition, Jenalle became obsessed with alternative healing modalities—an obsession that saw her enter the world of psychedelic plant medicine as Head of Content and Partnerships at Retreat Guru. As her relationships with both global retreat centers and sacred plants blossomed, she decided to create travel journals for use at medicine retreats. When the pandemic hit, however, she pivoted from creating journals that focused on external travel to developing psychedelic and microdosing journals to support internal travel.

Today, Jenalle runs Wakeful Travel—a ceremony-companion company that works with retreat centers, psychedelic clinics, therapists, and other wakeful brands to provide tools that aid in transformation and self-exploration. She is also Head of Content at Third Wave and a MAPS Canada Volunteer in Vancouver.

When Jenalle's not consuming or managing psychedelic content, she's slicing through pillow pockets on her snowboard, riding down rocks on her mountain bike, or boogying to funk, house, or drum and bass.
